I recentl;y bought an australian saddle and i haven't had time to check if a western breastplate will fit I have looked at bothe saddles and both breast collars and I think it will work if I get a western breastcollar thats long enough to reach the hooks on the saddle?
and it has a nice clothy feeling think pad underneath it

This question can only really be answered by trying it out. Some breastcollars are tiny and some are big. Some might fit while others will not. To answer your question, if it does fit properly and is up off the shoulders with room leftover to move then go ahead and use it, just make sure it isn't too tight. Have fun with your new saddle!

Australian saddles are the best of both worlds! They combine the advantages of an English saddle with the advantages of a Western saddle to give you the most comfortable seat ever.
The Aussie sits further forward than a western and bears more weight on the horses shoulders which keeps you off his kidneys and frees his rear end for better turning.
They evolved from the english saddles that were popular in the early 19th century. The Australian stockmen would modify them for the steep climbing and rough country they rode in. When the British Army would pursue the stockmen for whatever reasons they found that they had trouble staying in their saddles while the Aussies kept their seats just fine.
Fitting an Aussie is different than a western. If you would normally use a 15 inch western, you would probably need a 17 inch Aussie. It's not that your butt is any bigger, the Aussie is measured differently.
It is much more comfortable for both you and your horse. Especially if you have knee problems or find your feet going to sleep in your Western.
